Fletcher Creek Campground is one of those camping spots you stumble upon and immediately want to keep a secret. Imagine pitching your tent right above the water, with your own private dock stretching out into a peaceful, sandy-bottom “creek” (it feels like a lake). It’s shallow for the first 10 feet, perfect for wading around or cooling off on hot summer day, before it deepens into natural weeds here.

What makes this spot extra special is that it blends classic camping vibes with a bit of glamping comfort. When you stay here, you get complimentary access to Northern Exposure Campground, just about an 8-minute drive away. Think of Northern Exposure as your friendly neighbor down the road with all the extras, including a handy general store (though I’d recommend Hodenpyl Dam Store on the way), nice clean showers, a tasty pizza joint, and live music almost every night. There’s a large sandy beach area that’s a perfect place to unwind if you’re craving a bit more beach.

Most importantly, Fletcher Creek is only about five minutes from the little town of Mesick, so the Bucksnort Saloon is never too far away.

Campsite #15

06/27/2025 – 06/29/2025

Not gonna lie, the actual goal this weekend was a stay at Seaton Creek, but things have gotten a lot busier over there and rolling up for a spot on Friday evening isn’t do-able any more. So we headed out in search of another rustic spot.

I had passed Fletcher Creek in the past on the way to the Hodenpyl General Store but never turned in. It’s quite the gem! Quieter than Seaton, there were plenty of spots along the water. Most sites come with their own dock.

Porta-potties replace vault toilets here, but there’s an ice machine on site and you receive a free pass to Northern Exposure if you talk to the host.

Quiet and Tranquil

The atmosphere here was calm, the “creek” felt more like a lake, and we were visited every morning and evening by a family of Trumpeter Swans.

One note is that there were quite a few wood roaches around. So cleanup at night was more for bugs than prowling racoons.

Northern Exposure

I’d guess this smaller rustic site is owned or partnered with Northern Exposure, the large campground down the road. We took a day trip here during our stay for the beach.

Northern Exposure is a CAMPGROUND campground. Tons of trailers (though a few at Fletcher too), basketball courts, showers, bathroom buildings, a general store, pizza place, volleyball court… you name it, they have it.

Many visitors will launch their boats or pontoons here and find sandy recesses along the Hodenpyl Lake or Seaton Creek to beach at.
