Camping Adventures throughout Michigan

Since 2022, the morel mushrooms seasons have been dry for us. Were we too early, too late, or maybe the weather wasn’t right? – it’s always hard to pinpoint an exact reason. Morels move season to season as well, making them hard to track.

Rivers, creeks, stars, coyotes, bacon wrapped brats, PokémonGo and good fucking vibes. Last Seaton visit of ‘23 included hiking out to “Little Mac”, a large wooden suspension bridge that unites the Manistee River Trail with the North Country Trail.

A visit to two new sites that looked promising, Sulak Campground and Gleason’s Landing! Both offered me and Moose access to the river, though by very different means.

Another trip to Seaton over the holiday weekend filled with Oberon, Petoskey Stones, and possible bear scat!

Sara’s Falls is a small waterfall hidden in the Manistee National Forest. Me and Moose set out to find the lower peninsula’s only known natural waterfall.

In the UP off Highway 2, Hog Island Campground is a hidden gem and perfect waypoint. Sites are secluded and right on Lake Michigan.

How to find morels and cook them up! Morel mushrooms are abundant in northern Michigan and this year, we found plenty to keep us snacking.
